The city
Silva Jardim is inland, between the mountains and the coast, and the biome of the city is the Atlantic Forest. The Poço das Antas Biological Reserve, shared with Casimiro de Abreu, protects the largest population of golden lion tamarin; by law it is open to educational visits and to research, and not to tourist visits. The BR-101 crosses the city and runs past the reserve, at Aldeia Velha.
Getting there
Silva Jardim has no airport: the closest one with commercial flights is Cabo Frio International Airport (CFB). By land, access is via the BR-101, which crosses the city as far as the boundary with Casimiro de Abreu. The former Linha do Litoral, which runs through the city, now carries freight trains only.
