The city
The city sits on the shore of the Lagoa de Araruama, and its waterfront is lagoon water, calm. The lagoon it stands on is the largest permanent hypersaline lagoon in the world. The Estação neighbourhood is named after the railway station that served Iguaba Grande between 1914 and 1962, on the Estrada de Ferro Maricá; the tracks were taken up in 1966 and the station was pulled down after that.
Getting there
Iguaba Grande has no airport: the closest one with commercial flights is Cabo Frio International Airport (CFB). By land, the city is served by the RJ-106, the Rodovia Amaral Peixoto, and is crossed by the RJ-124, the Via Lagos, which leaves the BR-101 at Rio Bonito.
