What to do in Casimiro de Abreu

The city
The city lies between the mountains and the coast, and is named after the poet Casimiro de Abreu, born in the region. In the district of Barra de São João, at the mouth of the rio São João, are the Museu Casa de Casimiro de Abreu and the Capela de São João Batista, from the 17th century. Inland, the Morro de São João, a former volcano 816 metres high, stands over the rivers, waterfalls and mountains of the city.
Getting there
The closest airport is the one in Macaé (MEA), in the city next to it, which has scheduled commercial flights; the closest international airport is the one in Cabo Frio (CFB), also next to it. By land, access is via the BR-101, which runs past the seat of the city on its way up the coast.
